What does door-to-door mean on an international move?
It means one firm is responsible from your front door in West London to the front door of the new home. We survey, pack and load in Hayes, prepare the customs paperwork, carry the load across the Channel and on to France, Italy, Spain or Portugal, and our destination partner team delivers, carries everything in and places it room by room. There is no hand-off to a stranger at a port and no second company to chase. If something needs sorting on delivery day, you ring the same Hayes office that took your first call.
Should you choose a shared load or a vehicle of your own?
A shared load, often called a part load, puts your belongings on a vehicle with other households heading the same way. It suits smaller moves, such as a flat or a few rooms of furniture, and people whose dates have some flexibility, because collection and delivery are planned around the whole consignment rather than one address.
A dedicated load keeps the vehicle for you alone. Collection and delivery follow your dates, the load goes straight to your door, and it is the usual choice for a full family home or for anyone working to a fixed completion. At survey we tell you which makes more sense for your volume and timing, and the written quote states clearly which one you are getting.
How is packing for an export move different?
A long road and a sea crossing ask more of packing than a move across town. Furniture is wrapped in export-grade covers, fragile items are boxed individually, and art, mirrors and instruments can be crated. For coastal deliveries in Portugal and Spain, or anywhere the goods may sit in storage, we add moisture protection. Every box is numbered and logged as it is packed, and that log becomes the itemised inventory the customs paperwork relies on. You can have us pack everything, only the fragile items, or nothing at all.
What customs paperwork do you handle?
Since Brexit, a household move to the EU is an export from the UK and an import into the EU. We, or our customs agent, lodge the UK export declaration before the lorry leaves, and we check at survey whether an EORI number in your own name is needed. On arrival in the EU, relief from import duty and VAT on your used household goods is claimed with the customs authority of your new country, under its transfer-of-residence rules. We prepare that declaration and the bilingual inventory. Visas, residence permits and tax registrations stay with you, but each country page explains what they are and where to apply.
Can you store belongings between collection and delivery?
Yes, at either end. If you leave your Hayes home before the new one is ready, we can hold everything in storage at the Hayes end and deliver once you have the keys. If the delay is on arrival, destination-side storage is arranged through our partners, with climate control available for sensitive items. Storage is quoted separately from the move, so you can see exactly what it adds and decide whether you need it.
What don't we do?
We only move to France, Italy, Spain and Portugal; for any other destination we are not the right firm and won't quote. We don't publish prices, because every quote follows a survey. And we don't advise on visas, tax or property law. Where those affect the move, we point you to the official source and plan the dates around the answer.
Where do these services take you?
Each destination has its own route, paperwork and access quirks, set out on its own page. The international removals hub compares all four side by side.
