Hayes → Italy
Italy splits north and south.
From Hayes through the Brenner Pass to Tuscany, Lake Como, Rome — or down through Genoa for Puglia and Sicily. Different customs queue, different drivers, same crew at your door in west London.
A note on the route.
Italy is the second-busiest corridor for us, and the one with the most variation. The northern route is EU-standard logistics: through France, over the Brenner, into Lombardy or Tuscany. The southern route runs longer — Genoa or Naples ferry, then a regional driver who knows which of Calabria's strada bianca your villa sits at the end of.
The paperwork starts with a codice fiscale (the Italian tax code) and the carta d'identità if you're settling. The customs side is straightforward post-Brexit if it's filed correctly; the practical side — finding the right driver who knows the right unmade road — is what we've built up over the years.
What's included.
-
Door-to-door pickup from your Hayes address
Surveyor walks the property — Hayes, Yiewsley, Hounslow, Southall, Northolt, the lot. Same crew loads in west London and hands off to the destination team at the frontier.
-
Italian-speaking coordinator
Native Italian; handles condominio chairs, regional couriers, the unspoken rules of the Italian moving day. The destination side is a different operating system; we keep a translator on it.
-
EORI and ToR1 filing
UK-end customs paperwork, filed on your behalf with HMRC.
-
Italian dogane paperwork
Brenner Pass entry filing — northern route — or Genoa entry for the southern run. We use the right one for your destination.
-
Goods-in-transit cover
All-risks underwritten cover from collection to delivery — heritage-grade options for antiques and frescoes.
-
Strada-bianca-rated vehicles
Rural Tuscany and Umbria mean unmade roads. The destination fleet includes 4×4 light trucks for properties off the asphalt.
-
Storage either side
Indoor depot in Hayes; partner depots in Milan, Florence, Rome. Cellar conditions for wine if your dates slip.
-
Move-day attention from the family
Same firm answering the phone in Hayes is the one calling you on delivery day.
What you'll need.
Italian paperwork has its own ritual; here it is.
- 1.
Codice fiscale · Italian tax code
Free, issued by the Agenzia delle Entrate. Required for almost everything in Italy — utilities, bank account, sometimes the lease. Apply at any Italian consulate before you fly out, or in-country once you arrive.
- 2.
EORI number · UK Economic Operator Registration
Filed by us with HMRC.
- 3.
ToR1 declaration · Transfer of Residence relief
Duty-free relief for household goods owned more than six months.
- 4.
Permesso di soggiorno · Italian residence permit
Applied for at the Questura within eight days of arrival. We time the delivery to align with your appointment if needed.
- 5.
Bilingual customs inventory · Inventory document
Italian dogane prefer English-Italian alongside. Prepared from the survey notes.
-
Tuscany
Florence, Siena, Lucca, the Val d'Orcia. Stone houses; weight-restricted village roads; small-truck final mile from the regional depot.
-
Lake Como & Milan
Northern Lombardy: gated lakeside villas, central Milan apartments. Concierge clearance handled by the destination team — most central buildings have one.
-
Rome & Lazio
Centro storico has access constraints — pedestrian zones, weekday delivery windows, the Comune permit chain. We work it for you.
-
Puglia
Trulli, masserie, Lecce townhouses. Rural drop-points; longer transit but well-trodden by our southern partners.
-
Sicily
Ferry from Genoa or Naples. Customs cleared on the mainland — no second clearance. Worth a calmer day on the boat.
How quotes work
A surveyor walks your Hayes-area property in person — we don't quote sight-unseen on Italian moves because access is so often the unknown. North-south distance is the largest variable; Sicilian or Sardinian routing adds a ferry leg. The written quote is a single fixed figure.
